Small handworked pieces embellished with stitching, beads, cut layers, silk ties, ribbon, lace and other found materials are inspired by vintage dollies and needlework samplers - forgotten and now seemingly useless hours of leisure time activity - women’s work. Using layers of tulle and more recently directly on dollies, I often start with digital renderings of my drawings and paintings creating machine embroidery as a base. These intimate singular investigations mirror the inner spaces of my heart, the tenderness & silence of quiet working - stitch by stitch - bead by bead - breath by breath.
